Principal - Janette Eddisford
Janette Eddisford has worked extensively as a director, writer and producer of theatre for the last twenty five years. She also works as a voiceover artist and actor in television, film, theatre, radio and in the corporate training sector. Janette has been a workshop leader and tutor for many years - both in mainstream education and in other contexts such as prisons, rehabilitation and probation programmes and youth work. She ran the Warren, a Hull based Community Arts/Welfare Centre from 1982 -1985 and ran the Nightingale Theatre, Brighton's premier fringe theatre venue, from 1987 - 1991. Janette was a co-founder and member of several touring/producing companies including The shameless Hussies, Footprint Theatre, Alarmist Theatre and Interact, a children's company. She studied Drama at Hull University, MA in Performing Arts at Middlesex University and Post Graduate Diploma in TEFL/Applied Linguistics at Brighton University and is currently studying an MA Dramatic Writing at Sussex University

Head of Acting - Daniel Finlay
Daniel Finlay BA (Hons) PGCE started work backstage in the West End at the age of 15 and later gained his degree in Visual & Performing Arts in 1987 from the University of Brighton. Since then he has worked extensively as an actor and his stage work includes: CAMILLE (Old Red Lion), A LESSON TO FORGIVE (Man in the Moon), JOSEPH J JOSEPH (Latchmere), The UK tour of BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT; Giorgio Joyce in SIMPLES OF THE MOON at the Lyric, Hammersmith and Dr Harry Trench opposite Lisa Harrow in WIDOWERS' HOUSES. Film and TV credits includes: IN THE SECRET STATE, THE BILL, SHERLOCK HOLMES, LONDON'S BURNING, WHAT'S THE CAPITAL OF MADAGASCAR, and TRIP. Daniel has directed many professional productions, recent work includes TRUNKS for BTC at the Old Ship Hotel, Brighton and the site specific LOSE THE PLOT on the
Volks Railway for Arts Agenda. He has directed over 25 full scale student productions. He was an associate producer of Tandem Theatre, whose critically acclaimed productions include: DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA, PVT WARS and THE GAMES RULE, in Edinburgh, London and on tour. Daniel is an Artistic Director of The Brighton Theatre Collective and has twice been the adjudicator for the Brighton & Hove Arts Council annual Drama Competition. Voice Mentor - Annie Morrison
Annie Morrison has worked for almost 30 years as a voice therapist/teacher. She studied voice in performance at The Central School of Speech and Drama and has taught in London drama schools including Rose Bruford and the Guildhall School of Acting and the Guildford School of Acting where she was Head of Voice. She is a visiting lecturer on several BA & MA Acting courses, as well as the MA Voice Studies course at The Central School of Speech & Drama. She runs workshops on articulation and effective strategies for dysfunctional voice and speech issues for voice coaches and singing teachers around the UK. Annie is a Voice Consultant for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre and AOD (Actors of Dionysus) and Recent work includes KING LEAR and HENRY IV with the RSC, master classes with voice departments of RSC and the National Theatre, and Katy Mitchell's SOME TRACE OF HER at the National. She has designed a highly successful speech tool (The Morrison Bone Prop), to enhance the efficacy of speech training to meet the demands of the modern stage. Her approach is intuitive, imaginative and playful. It is underpinned by her sound therapeutic and technical training.

Head of Voice - Jules Craig
Jules trained as an actor at Rose Bruford College on the Community Theatre Arts Course. Since then she has toured extensively with various companies including Theatre Adad, Arc Ensemble, Spiral from the Nuffield, the English Shakespeare Company and M6. She also studied 'Voice' at Central School of Speech and Drama and has taught at Central, Rose Bruford and most recently at ACT.

Head of Movement - Ralf Higgins
Ralf studied at Brighton University, graduating with a BA in Expressive Arts. He co-founded Alarmist Theatre in Brighton, touring nationally and representing the UK at the first 'Moscow University Festival of Avant-Garde Theatre'. For 14 years he was an Associate Artist with Kaos Theatre UK, touring nationally and internationally (Australia, Bangladesh, Israel, Taiwan, Germany, France) working as an actor, deviser, workshop leader and singing coach. From November 2005 to July 2008 Ralf was Actor In Residence at Theale Green Community School and Performing Arts College. Head of Musical Theatre - Louise Wicks
Since graduating from Goldsmiths College, University of London with a degree in Music, Louise Wicks BMus Hons has forged a career combining teaching groups and individuals of all ages and performing. She has studied musical theatre, jazz, classical and rock/pop vocals under such tutors as Kristin Keam, Louise Gibbs, Nan Christie and Carleen Anderson and as such is a highly versatile session singer. Louise performs regularly in the South of England as part of an a cappella trio, The Doo-Wop Dolls, and has played a wide range of venues including Birmingham NEC, London Astoria and St Paul's cathedral. Louise runs a thriving private teaching practice as well as teaching singing at Brighton & Hove High School and M & J's Theatre Arts.

Nick Bagnall

John Berry
John Patrick Berry is a graduate of Birmingham school of Acting and HB Studios, New York. He has studied all over the world and brings his expertise to Brighton and ACT. As an actor John has worked extensively in Theatre, and television. Working with the likes of the BBC and European touring companies, such as Tour De Force and TNT. John has directed and produced professionally for the last 6 years, in London, New York and Barcelona. Johns directing and teaching credits include Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Back2Back productions, International performing artists (IPA), and Miller Theatre company. As well as his own Theatre company, Profound Affect Theatre Company.

Janice Cramer

James Coombes
Born, Newport, South Wales. Trained at The Birmingham School of Speech and Drama and has been a professional actor for 30 years. He has worked extensively in theatre, film and tv. Work includes seasons at major theatres across the country including seasons at Chichester festival, Bristol Old Vic, Young Vic, Pitlochry, Sgrypt Cymru in Cardiff, Southampton, Birmingham, Ludlow Festival, Scarborough with Alan Ayckbourn amongst many others, and musicals such as A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, LOVE OFF THE SHELF, CARMEN NEGRA, and GOOD FUN By Victoria Wood. He has worked extensively in TV and film, including: THE COUNTRY DIARY OF AN EDWARDIAN LADY, ROBIN OF SHERWOOD, BUGS, HOWARDS WAY, POIROT, SHERLOCK HOLMES, WILLIAM TELL, Canadian sci-fi series: STARHUNTER, BOON, DOCTORS, HOLBY CITY, THE BILL, MY FAMILY, DR. WHO, A VOTE FOR HITLER, MCCREADY AND DAUGHTER, HARPUR AND ILES and most recently a 15 part series for BBC - DINOSAPIEN. Damien Goodwin
Damien has 17 years experience working as a director and actor. In 2005 he formed Reel Impact Productions and made the short films NOON SHARP and LIFT. They were subsequently selected for many International Film Festivals including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Cinema du Paris. In 2006 he began work as a freelance television director and recently returned from a two year contract on HOLLYOAKS (CH4). Most notably working on the multi award winning John Paul and Craig storyline. He is presently developing numerous film and TV projects including THE LESSON (Big Hug Ltd); MASTER OF SUSPENSE (Reel Impact Productions); OVER EXPOSED (Sitcom) and a new six part comedy drama series with screenwriter Davey Jones (presently under option to Monkey Kingdom). Damien's other work as a writer includes DANGEROUS PLAY (LWT); MY CHEKHOV (BAC, Tristan Bates Theatre and USA tour) and THE UNKNOWN (Komedia). He has also worked as a guest director/lecturer at a variety of drama schools in the UK and USA. Such as the Arts Educational School, Guildford, RADA and the Academy of Creative Training. Although he specialises in TV and Film he has also directed many theatre productions.

As an actor his theatre credits include the world premiere of Alan Ayckbourne's HAUNTING JULIA (Scarborough). The European premiere of Neil Simon's PROPOSALS (West Yorkshire Playhouse); KING LEAR (Hackney Empire); A SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS (Chichester); as well as national and international tours of ROMEO AND JULIET, DRACULA and MARRYING THE MISTRESS. Sascha Harman
Sascha trained at ACT. Tegen Hitchens
After signing with STORM Model Management Tegen then went onto study Acting at The Academy of Creative Training. Since graduating, Theatre Credits include SILENCE, THE GRADUATE, EAST, THIN AIR, NEW WORLD ORDER, NICE PEOPLE, INSEX, THE CHERRY ORCHARD, A MIDSUMMERS NIGHTS DREAM and THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE. Tegen is currently performing in LUNCHTIME FOURPLAY at the St James Theatre, London and in rehearsal for BREWERS FAYRE and THE BITE-SIZE BREAKFAST SHOW which will be performed at the Brighton/ Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Tegen has recently made her directorial debut with JOURNEY TO X as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival which received a 5* review. She also directs for Bite-Size Plays.

Joanne Howarth
As an actor Joanne's theatre work includes for the Royal Shakespeare Company: FAUST, LES ENFANTS DU PARADIS, THE VIRTUOSO, Sam Mendes production of THE ALCHEMIST , David Leveaux' 'TIS PITY SHE'S A WHORE and JULIUS CAESAR and in 2007 Neil Bartlett's TWELFTH NIGHT and Nancy Meckler's COMEDY OF ERRORS. For the Royal National Theatre, HE WHO SAW EVERYTHING. In London Joanne was in THE FIREWORK-MAKERS DAUGHTER ( Hammersmith Lyric/Told by an Idiot), SINGER (The Tricycle), ROMEO AND JULIET and THE POWER OF DARKNESS (The Orange Tree), PERA PALAS (The Gate) and Dreamthinkspeak's WHO GOES THERE? Emma Kilbey
Emma is an actress, journalist, director, cabaret singer, teacher and coach. After graduating from Exeter University with a BA Hons English Degree she went on to do a one-year course with Arts Educational Schools, culminating in a six-week showcase at The Theatre Museum in Covent Garden. Theatre highlights include: Polly Garter in UNDER MILK WOOD, Lorraine Sheldon in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, Stella in WHALE MUSIC, the title role in an all-female Soho Group production of MACBETH, Mrs Malaprop in THE RIVALS, Ingrid in Blavatsky's TOWER, Margaret in MY MOTHER SAID I NEVER SHOULD, Alex in ON THE VERGE. Corporate work includes creating and facilitating diversity and communication training packages Europe-wide, plus educational work devising theatre with disadvantaged young people at The Sherman Theatre, Cardiff (BRIDGING THE GAP) and first and second year acting students at Northampton University. Julian Kerridge
Julian began his professional career as an actor, performing with the RSC and Royal National Theatre and in numerous television series including CORONATION STREET (Granada), DANGERFIELD (BBC), THE JUMP and FAT FRIENDS (YTV). A 2008 directing graduate of the London Film School, Julian has just co-written and directed his first feature film. SEAMONSTERS was shot in spring 2010 and features a cast of new young talent alongside Rita Tushingham in her 47th film role. The film can be followed on Twitter@seamonstersfilm. Sarah Mann
Sarah studied Drama with Carole Best in Brighton, Drama & English at The West London Institute and then went on to gain her diploma at Arts Educational Schools London. She has worked as an actress for many years and her credits include: Cleo (Lysistrata) Rose theatre, Kingston. Florence Unger (The Odd Couple), Mrs Hardcastle (She Stoops to Conquer), Madame Arcati (Blithe Spirit), Lady Bracknell (The Importance of Being Earnest) Incisor Open-Air theatre, Brighton. Maria (Twelfth Night) Pavilion Theatre, Brighton. Penny (I know What You Want) Edinburgh Festival & Tour. Jonquil (Beauty & The Beast), Charlotte (Elegies) Komedia, Brighton. Lotte (The Ugly Man) BAC, London. TV credits include: Basil Brush, The Bill, The Hutton Enquiry, Noel's House Party and Bill & Cosh. She played Jane Gunn in the Feature Film: Connected. Sarah co-founded Incisor Theatre Company in 1988 and has produced many productions for stage and screen. They had a residency in St Ann's Well Gardens for 8 years and produced an open-air performance each summer. She was also assistant manager at The Fortune Theatre in Covent Garden & Stage Manager for The Royal Theatrical Fund. Sarah has been the Artistic Director at The London Drama School, which she helped to found, for 15 years. Her particular interest is in Shakespeare which she has taught in London, Brighton, Australia, New Zealand Mexico and The Seychelles; Restoration Comedy, Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward, Chekhov and Animal Study, which she teaches regularly. Her involvement with Brussels based Corporate Theatre Company, Teamact, led her to teaching Professional Presentation Skills for business people, most notably at The EU in Brussels. Sarah has been Trinity Examiner in Speech and Drama for over 10 years and also coaches students towards these exams.

Franklyn McCabe
Franklyn studied acting under legendary teacher Doreen Cannon at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and appeared in numerous theatre, film and television productions throughout the 1990s. During that decade he worked for directors such as John Madden, Michael Rudman and Joseph Blatchley. Since then, he has turned exclusively to writing and directing, and has had work produced in Brighton, London and New York over the last 15 years. In 2008 Franklyn founded the Brighton-based new writing company Two Bins, and only a year later the company opened the 2009 Brits Off Broadway season at 59E59 Theaters in Manhattan. He is now working at The Old Market in Hove with Yes/No Productions (producers of STOMP), on various new writing projects. Sean Mclevy
Sean trained at Central School of Speech and Drama and graduated in 1989. He has worked as an actor /director ever since. He was given an arts council bursary as a director in 1993 and has directed at the Crucible Theatre (Sheffield ), Royal Exchange Theatre (Manchester), TheWolsey Theatre (Ipswich). The Mercury Theatre (Colchester) and Polka Children's Theatre (London). Sean has also taught as well as directed at drama schools such as Arts Ed, Central School, East15, ALRA, Mountview Academy, Manchester UNi and Huddersfield UNi . He has directed over a hundred shows and from 2009 till 2012 was the Deputy to the Director of the Acting Programme at The Mountview Theatre Academy, subsequently Head of the BA.

Steve North
Steve North trained at the Guildford School of Acting. Film and Short films include SOUTH WEST NINE, THROUGH THE K-HOLE, WORLD OF WRESTLING, DAVE AND DAVID. His interest in new writing has also led him to film production. He co-wrote and was Associate Producer of the film SOUTH WEST NINE and was also Associate Producer of THE FOOTBALL FACTORY. He has directed two short films. The first CREGAN was funded by The Film Council under the Digital Shorts scheme. It has been screened at festivals in the UK and Ireland including Foyle and Soho Rushes and was selected as one of the Final Cut films of the year here in Brighton. The second, GREENSLEEVES is a dark comic horror set in Brighton starring comedienne Jo Neary which completed shooting in December 2008.

Joanna Rosenfeld
Joanna Rosenfeld (formerly Sabine Hauschild)- Magistra Artium (Master of Arts) English and American Studies (also Drama and Theatre Studies), Goethe University, Frankfurt/M., Germany 1992-1997, Certificate of professional Development in Physical Theatre, Hope Street Int./ John Moores University, Liverpool 1998 - trained as an actress with Alexander Brill at the Kammerspiel, Frankfurt/M., and Stephan Markusfeld at the Goethe University, Frankfurt/M., Germany. In Germany, she spent 7 years in repertory theatre (Kammerspiel, Frankfurt/M and Chaincourt Theatre Company, Frankfurt/M.) Here she has been working as a free lance actress with such people as Paul Hunter & Hayley Carmicheal (Told by an Idiot), Michael Case (The Mask Studio), Jonathan Kay (Attic Theatre), Kath Burlinson and Alison Goldie (The Weird Sisters), and Tim Hall (Forced Entertainment). Joanna also is a co-founder of the small scale experimental performance art theatre company AboutFace Theatre Company UK. For AF she performed the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival show EXILED in 1999, and the acclaimed multi-media monologue CLOSE UPS during the summer 2000 in North America. Her most recent work was a commission for Cirque du Soleil in London, in which she produced, directed and performed in a mask ensemble piece.

Jen Rowe
Jen Rowe is an ACT graduate who now specialises in comedy and improvisation with award-winning company, The Maydays, with whom she teaches and performs musical and non-musical shows. She has worked with Dreamthinkspeak, and regularly works with Brighton-based companies Whiteroom Theatre, Rational Madness and street theatre company Dodgy Totty.

Gary Sefton
Gary trained at Guildford School of Acting and is an Actor, Director and Teacher of Movement and Physical Theatre. Aaron Swartz
Aaron trained at the Drama Centre, London . As an actor he has appeared at The National Theatre, The Sheffield Crucible, The Newcastle Playhouse and Oxford Playhouse, to name a few. He has appeared in over 20 films and over 60 commercials. Films include JUDGE DREAD, ENTRAPMENT, 51ST STATE, THE FOURTH PROTOCOL, SPOOKS, BODY GUARDS, and DON NOT DISTURB. He is currently teaching Acting for Camera on the MA Acting for Screen at Central School of Speech and Drama and the Drama Centre, London. Film Directing credits include: WHEN WILL I BE FAMOUS? & THE WORLDS GREATEST FAN both sold to the BBC. Theatre Directing credits include: WHAT BECAME OF THE WITCH for Theatre & Beyond, WHAT NOW? And MRS MESAROZ at the Komedia, Brighton, and HETTY BAKES A CAKE for the Brighton Festival, Pavilion Theatre. Aaron has directed recent ACT productions including: ONCE A CATHOLIC and THE ARAB-ISRAELI COOKBOOK both at the Pavilion, Brighton. .

Aaron Tonks
Aaron studied Screen Acting at The International School of Screen Acting (ISSA) based at 3 Mills Studios London, where on graduating his short film was shown at BAFTA. Before ISSA he attended a summer course in Drama at Guildhall School of Drama and Music. Since graduating he has signed with an agent and is a working Actor. He has been in a couple of adverts and last year appeared in a video that went viral. The video's song on which he sung reached number one in the comedy charts. Aaron now works closely with a production company that works with the BBC and has just recently starred in their short film set in the 60's, where Aaron plays the lead.

Sian Webber
Sian has a BA (Hons) in Theatre from Dartington College of Arts and has worked as an actress for over twenty years. Her theatre credits include; The Young Vic, Bristol Old Vic, Salisbury Playhouse, The Wolsey, Battersea Arts, Croydon Warehouse, Chester Gateway, The Gate and tours both nationally and internationally. Her extensive television work includes co-starring with Simon Shepherd in two series of BLISS for Carlton and she appears regularly as Ritchie Scott for EASTENDERS, other TV includes: SILENT WITNESS, TRIAL AND RETRIBUTION, ABOVE SUSPISCION, CASUALTY, WATERLOO ROAD, HOLBY CITY, THE BILL, DANGERFIELD, BAD GIRLS, CHANDLER AND CO, INSPECTOR ALLYEN, PIE IN THE SKY, THIN ICE, CHELMSFORD 123, FAMILY AFFAIRS, DOCTORS, ANNIES BAR, THE PARADISE CLUB, STARCOPS, HOWARDS WAY. She played Marie de Medici in the feature film YOUNG BLADES for Canal Central. Alongside her acting work she has taught students at East 15 and Arts Ed. She has been involved in helping emerging writers develop their work and has directed rehearsed readings for New Writing South and has been part of a team developing new writing headed by Annie Castledine and The Nightingale Theatre. She continues her professional development working most recently with Voice specialist Jane Boston.

Movement


Miriam King
Miriam (Mim) is an Artist/Choreographer/Dancer/Live Artist/Filmmaker born in London, living in Brighton, working Internationally. With an art school background she commenced her professional performance career in 1984. Moving from theatre through to dance, and in more recent years to live art and film, her most significant training was with Anton Adasinsky & his performance company DEREVO at their former studio in Leningrad, Russia in 1990. Mim's work is influenced by Butoh dance. She's has been creating her own unique performances since 1992, taking her to live art festivals and artist-in-residences around the world. She has researched, lectured and presented work in many countries including Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Czech Republic, Iceland, China, South Korea, USA, New Zealand and Australia. Her award winning dance film work has been shown at Lincoln Centre/New York, Pompidou Centre/Paris, ICA/London, the Venice Bienale and at the Sydney Opera House, Australia and in every continent (excluding Antarctica). Mim is on the editorial panel for Total Theatre Magazine, regularly contributing articles and reviews. She's a member of Movement 12 and a visiting lecturer teaching Performance and Choreography at various establishments including University of Brighton.

Dawn Turner
Dawn Turner graduated from Chichester University in Dance and Related Arts. Since then she has performed in London, Denmark, Holland and numerous Brighton Festivals. Her main area of interest is choreography and movement analysis. She is also a qualified masseuse, Shiatsu practitioner and holds a Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology and a NCFE teaching qualification. Dawn was a member of the Phoenix Project, a two year project, supported by the The Laban Guild, to ensure the pure work of Rudolf Laban's principles of Movement Analysis is not lost and continues to be used to educate and inform our daily lives in and outside of dance. As a result of the project she coordinated two very successful Summer Schools which ran at Bedford University. Dawn was also part of two DVD's explaining Laban's principles, one of which is called LIVING ARCHITECTURE, the second, HOW TO APPLY LABAN'S PRINCIPLES is still in production. Laban's work continues to guide both her work as a teacher and choreographer.

Dorothy Rosser
Dorothy is a voice coach and provides voice training for Acting, Presentation Skills, Singing and Personal Development. She has 18 years of experience in the field and was trained at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. She took her M.A at the Central School of Speech and Drama and is also trained as a Voice Movement Therapist. Dorothy has an egalitarian approach encouraging and drawing out individual inspiration, personal confidence, authenticity and energy. She creates a safe, non-judgmental environment. As well as teaching at Act, Dorothy has taught at Brighton University, The Brit School, East 15 and is a lecturer in Presentation skills at the American Intercontinental University in London. She teaches individuals and groups privately and has also been an active performer. These include being part of a can-can dancing troupe, collaborative performances with Brighton University drama students, backing singer and a vocalist for a band in Bridport. www.thevoicebox.org.uk

Trish Golding
Trish Golding has worked for ten years as an actress in touring and educational theatre. She co-founded the World Turned Upside Down Theatre Co, based in Brighton which later became Brighton Theatre Events and still tours shows today. Trish began teaching ten years ago for the Workers Educational Association and ran improvisation classes for adults. She gained a post as a lecturer in performing arts at City College Brighton and Hove and eventually became course leader for the National Diploma in Performing Arts, then as Programme Area Manager for the whole of the performing arts area. Trish went on to train as a Psychotherapist and has experience in a number of different settings. She has a postgraduate diploma in counselling, is a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and abides by its code of ethics. As Trish has trained and worked as an actor and has been an ACT tutor, she has had first hand experience of the problems faced by student actors.
