The Acting Business - Saturday 16th April 2011

Suzy is a renowned and highly experienced Casting Director in Film, Television and Theatre, for programmes such as Silent Witness, Holby City and Casualty. She offers advice on photos, CV's, approaching agents and finding work.

Her Intensive One Day Masterclass will involve you participating in a mock casting session, identifying your casting type and some individual sight reading which will help you gain the practical tools to turn your dream into a workable reality.

Suzie has requested that everyone participating in the workshop submits their CV and photo (does not have to be a professional headshot) by 11th April. Once we have confirmed your place we will send you details of where and how to submit your CV and Photo.

Audition Bootcamp - Saturday 17th April 2011

James has had over 30 years experience in all aspects of the business and, as a currently busy actor, knows from the sharp end what auditions and castings can throw at you and how to handle them. His mantra is 'Stand out from the crowd, you are unique!'

His Intensive One Day Masterclass explores the secrets of successful auditions by investigating all the types of audition that an actor will come up against in their career. The day consists of practical work in small groups and solo, mock auditions, sightreading, body language, the monologue and much more. Scripts will be provided but students are encouraged to bring along a prepared piece for the mock audition and get good advice on how to improve it. This course is equally valuable for those intending to apply for Drama School or those looking to start the rounds of professional castings.

Dying For It by Moira Buffini

Rehearsal photos... Coming Soon ... Year Two Diploma Public Show...

Sallis Benney Theatre, Brighton. 8th - 10th April 2011.

Semyon lives in poverty, in the hallway, his mother in law has the bedroom. He can't find a job and is supported by his wife. What is he to do?

When his last hope for self-respect disappears, Semyon decides to take his own life. But word gets out and he finds himself inundated with sympathetic visitors - begging him to die on their behalf. Suddenly, he's an important man, and on the night of his proposed suicide, events spiral to a gloriously funny climax.

Inspired by Erdman's celebrated satirical comedy The Suicide this new play is freely adapted by Moira Buffini. She is best known for her brilliant comedy Dinner at the National Theatre and the West End. Her other plays include Love Play and Doomsday Girl for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Silence at Birmingham Rep.

This production is directed by actor and director Julian Kerridge. Julian has just completed directing his first feature film Seamonsters which is released later this year.

AKT National Theatre New Connections

AKT National Theatre New Connections

AKT Youth Theatre are taking part in The National Theatre New Connections 2011 - the UK's most exciting festival of Youth Theatre. They will be performing BASSETT by James Graham on the 11th - 12th of March at The Sallis Benney Theatre, Brighton and the 25th of March at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Bassett by James Graham

Directed by Janette Eddisford & Daniel Finlay

Citizenship class at Wootton Bassett School and the supply teacher has gone a bit nuts, doing a runner and locking the pupils in. That's bad enough, but tensions are higher today than normal, a day when only yards from their confinement a repatriation of fallen British soldiers is happening along the high street - as it has over a hundred times before through this quiet Wiltshire town. And this one is more personal than most ...

Dean needs the toilet, Aimee needs a coffee, Amid needs to pray, and Leo ... well, Leo really, really wants to be at the repat, and is determined to escape. As factions form and secrets are revealed, maybe he's not the only one who'll want to get away.

Bassett is a pacy, funny and exhausting look at young people who have inherited a world at war; who, as they grow older, are starting to ask questions about these conflicts, their country, and themselves.

Venue: The Sallis Benney Theatre, 58-67 Grand Parade, Brighton BN2 0JY

Date: 11th - 12th March 2011
Time: 8pm (doors 7.30pm)
Tickets: £7.00 (£5.00 Cons)
