LONDON SHOWCASE 2014
Our
esteemed Patron, Frank Finlay CBE, outside Jermyn Street Theatre with two
of the cast - Ernesto Alvarez and Kordian Gil - after the Two Year
Diploma in Acting London Showcase today.
Two time BAFTA winner, and
Oscar nominee, Frank said the Showcase was ‘Absolutely marvellous’ and
praised the ‘truthful performances’ and ‘professionalism of the cast’.

Our Town

Set in the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners, Our Town tells the story of an average town's citizens in the early twentieth century as depicted through their everyday lives. Scenes from the town's history between the years of 1901 and 1913 are performed in three acts - Daily Life, Love and Marriage and Death and Dying.
This poignant, touching and heartfelt jewel of a play tells a timeless tale that everyone can relate to. Imaginatively staged and directed by Julian Kerridge, this is a must-see opportunity to enjoy this classic American tale.
Our Town was first performed at McCarter Theater in Princeton, New Jersey on January 22, 1938. It later went on to success on Broadway and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

One Year Foundation In Acting
Course Aims:
Foundation aims to bridge the gap between a basic understanding of drama and performance and
professional training. Building on people's natural abilities, the course is an ideal forum in which
to discover each student's unique creative potential. The course is designed to develop a balance of
skills in an atmosphere where the student can work freely, safely and confidently with professionals
who care.
Students will have the opportunity to develop skills and techniques in acting, movement, voice and
singing. Students will explore the use of dramatic language in a range of contexts to help free their
expressive abilities and extend their range. The skills acquired will be applied to rehearsals where
students will be working on termly projects and with a professional director towards a final public
performance.
Foundation aims to equip those students who wish to pursue actor training at Diploma level but
lack the necessary experience with the fundamental tools, techniques and understanding for
progression. It will also suit those students who wish to broaden their knowledge and practical
skills in acting and drama but who do not necessarily wish to purse a professional career. Foundation
has also proved to be beneficial to those wishing to extend their training into a broader context
such as Drama Therapy, Teaching or Training.
Overview:
Foundation is open to students over 18 and there is no upper age limit. The course runs for three
terms over one year. Each term consists of 12 continuous weeks. Students are required to attend
Sunday 12 noon to 7pm and Monday evening 6.45pm to 10pm. During production weeks students may have to
attend outside of these times when required.

Julian Kerridge - Julian began his professional career as an actor, performing with the
RSC and Royal National Theatre and in numerous television series
including CORONATION STREET (Granada), DANGERFIELD (BBC), THE JUMP and
FAT FRIENDS (YTV). A 2008 directing graduate of the London Film School,
Julian has just co-written and directed his first feature film.
SEAMONSTERS was shot in spring 2010 and features a cast of new young
talent alongside Rita Tushingham in her 47th film role. The film can be
followed on Twitter@seamonstersfilm. Julian has three short films
supported by the British council including his graduation film 'ALL DAY
BREAKFAST screened at numerous festivals including Raindance and Eat our
shorts at the BFI Southbank. He also recently directed the internet
drama series CELIA AND CHLOE co-produced by Disney and seen by over

Summer School 2014
An opportunity to take your acting skills to the next level.
Our annual Acting Summer School offers the choice of five intensive week
long training courses. This year we are offering five areas of study;
Musical Theatre, Audition Technique, Movement, Screen Acting and
Shakespeare through Stanislavski.
Each course runs from Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm. Depending on the subject there is either a performance, screening or exercise on the final Friday. You are welcome to invite guests to attend final performances & screenings. You can choose to participate in just one or do more (fee discounts apply)

Musical Theatre: Scene into Song Monday
18th to Friday 22nd August 2014
Students will learn the skills of acting through singing and explore characterisation through music, staging and performance. In addition to acting classes and ensemble singing, students will receive coaching in the use of their voice and repertoire learning. It would be useful if all participants brought one audition piece with them to the first session.

Audition Technique
Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August 2014
Ideal for those considering drama school, or those interested in improving their audition technique, this course prepares you to approach the audition process with skill and confidence. Taught by Sean Mclevy (former Head of Acting at Mountview) and Sarah Mann (Trinity Guildhall Examiner), participants will study a contemporary and classical monologue and take part in a mock audition on the final Friday.
ACT Hove 10am-5pm.
Creative Movement
Monday 25th to Friday 29th August 2014
Ideal for anyone wishing to explore body space & movement - this course will look at the work of different practitioners such as Laban and Grotowski who have influenced actor training. Students will discover, awaken and develop their instruments to meet the demands of being on stage and in front of the camera.

Screen Acting: Acting For Camera Monday
1st to Friday 5th September 2014An opportunity to explore acting for camera with an experienced industry professional. This week long course will allow participants to develop confidence and ease in performing for camera as well as covering the technical aspects of working in TV and Film. Participants will work practically as actors with cameras and sound. The Friday showing will allow for screening rough cuts and rushes from the week's work. ACT Brighton 10am-5pm. Friday screening 7pm.
Stanislavski into Shakespeare
Monday 8th to Friday 12th September 2014This is an exciting and experimental week looking at how we might apply Stanislavski's approach to Shakespeare's texts. John Barton's view on acting Shakespeare was that 'the actor must be rooted in nature' and start with the thoughts and the meaning. This week will look at how we can use some of Stanislavski's fundamental tools to unlock those thoughts and meanings. ACT Brighton 10am-5pm. Friday Performance 7pm

The workshop will be led by members of the ACT team who specialise in
each of the disciplines. ACT tutors are both experienced teachers and
professional practitioners. Viv Berry leads Musical Theatre, Sean Mclevy
and Sarah Mann lead Audition Technique, Mim King and Ralf Higgins lead
Movement, Sarah Mann leads Stanislavski into Shakespeare and Julian

Entry Requirements
This is an intensive and demanding course which aims to mirror the
commitment and rigours of full time professional training. The workshop
will be highly suitable for those students who wish to undertake a
vibrant and challenging course but are unable to commit to a full time
course.
The workshop will also suit those students who are about to embark on
full time actor training or graduates, actors or teachers who wish to
re-engage with training and hone their existing skills. Places are
limited so early booking is advisable.

There is an additional fee of £50 for Screen Acting for technical costs which includes a professional camera operator.
A concessionary rate of £175 (for one week) is available to those in
receipt of statutory benefits, student card holders and Equity members.

The Academy positively encourages candidates with
considerable life experience who have already pursued other careers and
ambitions. Now, having rigorously
applied themselves to actor training on our 2 Year Vocational Diploma, these
actors bring humanity, depth and vigour to their craft.
Previous Graduates are currently working at the National
Theatre (Lear), in Game of Thrones (TV), on No 1 UK tours and recent credits
include Sherlock, Parade’s End, Gambit, Mojo and a BATA nomination.

Month In The Country - Review The Argus 4th April 2014
Love is a catastrophe, says Michel to Alexei in the last act of
Turgenev’s A Month In The Country, at the end of which you believe him. On stage are thwarted, undeclared or unconsummated passions for
married mothers, young tutors, innocent girls, family friends or servant
girls: escape is only possible through mariage de convenance, or a
train to Moscow. Happiness is not on offer. It’s a challenging play for
young actors: plot as character develops as slowly as Turgenev’s own
‘lace from knots’, with only the merest of gestures for Natalya to
demonstrate passive, Russian fatalism. But this allowed time for growing
confidence – there was an early tendency to rush.

Sean McLevy directed young actors from the Academy of Creative
Training and produced a most accomplished and satisfying performance:
overall acting, stage movement, voice production and set management were
superb. Sarah Cockburn had to become Frau, not Herr, Schaaf for her
very funny joke, comic relief shared by the cracker jokes of the
excellent Paolo Delogu. Claire Maria Tipper was beautifully bored but
whilst Vera and Alexei were charmingly youthful, were Arkadi or Michel
quite mature enough? Are men, ever?
